Bank Holiday Beauty Prep

by Mollie Horne

There is another bank holiday on the horizon (yay!) and here in the office, we are making plans and thinking about doing some pampering in preparation. Sometimes beauty prep can be a bit of a chore but why not turn it into a therapeutic ritual and relish the opportunity for some ‘me time’?

Here are our top steps for looking and feeling your best for the bank holiday.

Hair Be Gone

Miss Vogue has an excellent article on all the different methods of hair removal. Personally, I like hair removal creams for my legs because they remove hair to just below the skin’s surface and the result is silky smooth skin. I also like the fact that I can just apply and then sit back and wait for the cream to do its stuff.

Top tip – Sensitive skin or moisturising formulas are often just as effective at removing hair but limit the risk of skin irritation and nourish your skin at the same time. They have skin-calming ingredients such as aloe vera or oils which treat your legs at the same time. We like Veet Natural Inspirations Hair Removal Cream for Sensitive Skin. It has grape seed oil in it which makes your legs feel really soft. Don’t forget to do a patch test!

Exfoliation, Exfoliation, Exfoliation

Baths are my time to exfoliate. I love to light a scented candle, set up some Netflix and give my whole body a good scrub. Exfoliation significantly improves the appearance of your legs as well as making them feel lighter and rejuvenated. We suggest that you wait a while after hair removal before exfoliating because our leg scrub packs a punch! While you are running the bath or before you switch on the shower, apply Exfo-Lite starting at your ankles and working your way up. Don’t forget areas like the backs of your knees.

Top tip – Using your shower attachment, spritz the legs alternately with warm and cold water, ending with a warm spritz. This is called Swiss spray therapy and enhances stimulating and decongesting powers by raising your circulation. It also primes and prepares your legs for an application of Air-Lite.

Feet Fairest of Them All

Exfo-Lite can be used on your feet too! Also, soaking softens the hard skin on your feet so post-bath is the perfect time to finish them off with a foot file. The Body Shop one is great because it is dual-sided. Use the rougher side first and focus on your heels and the balls of your feet. Then use the less rough side to smooth. Be warned that it is quite addictive when you start but make sure not to over file.

What to Wear?

We are keeping our fingers crossed for warm weather for the long weekend! Why not showcase your beautifully pampered legs in these Boden Richmond Shorts? There are 9 colours to choose from, but we love the vibrant Tutti Fruity colour. Wear them with a shirt tucked in or a jumper looks great too if the sun doesn’t make an appearance.

Face Time

When I do a face mask, I really feel like I am having a spa-like experience at home. Recently, I have been loving sheet masks. Sarah Chapman’s 3D Moisture Infusion Masks feel really luxurious and supercharge your skin with radiant, youthful moisture. The low molecular weight hyaluronic acid means that it easily penetrates the skin making your skin plump uber-hydrated.

Top tip – Use a jade roller, facial massage tool or just your hands to aid lymphatic drainage and maximise the effects of the mask.
