Legs Talk: Lisa Snowdon

Her face (and fantastic legs) are familiar to all of us, both on TV, social and in print, and we make no secret of the fact that Lisa Snowdon is a top Legology muse, having the figure, face, infectious sense of humour and chops to broadcast (Capital London), present (Britain’s Next Top Model), model (Vogue, Elle), cook (so well she won Celebrity Masterchef in 2022), dance (that’ll be Strictly Come Dancing) and now publish in a career spanning two decades. Lisa’s book, Just Getting Started: Lessons In Life, Love and Menopause, is the ultimate girls guide and the only book we all wanted this year (and will be for the next 10 probably) with its human and honest take on life stages from fertility to pregnancy and menopause. What makes this book so magic is that it gives the reader a togetherness, a sense that you are in something with others, not least an author who gets it, having lived life and got the T-shirt, and is able to speak about these milestones with empathy, reassurance, humour at times and humility. Lisa is the real deal, and we all love her for it. Now, let’s hear a bit about her walking habits, what she’s got on the headphones and where she goes in this month’s Legs Talk.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE WALK AND DO YOU PREFER A COMPANION (DOG, FRIEND, CHILDREN, ETC) OR GOING SOLO?

I do love a good forest walk and I am lucky as I live very close to Epping forest. My fiancé George is my favourite walking companion, wherever we go in the world. A good beach walk in Norfolk as well as walking for miles on a city break, we never run out or conversation and it’s always an adventure.  In the forest we often walk for hours, it’s beautiful to notice the seasons changing, and I love it when we see butterflies and different birds, as well as spotting deer. It is a magical part of the world.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE JEAN STYLE?

I love so many different styles of jeans, it’s hard for me to pick a favourite, it depends on my mood and what my day entails. Boyfriend is good for a more relaxed weekend feel, a cropped skinny I find I maybe wear the most as so versatile with either trainers a sandal or a heel. And bootcut is fab to wear with a T-shirt and blazer. So many styles for all different moods..

WHERE HAVE YOUR LEGS TAKEN YOU TODAY?

Today my legs have taken me on a 6am gym session with my PT Paul who works at a gym which is just up the road called Zone 6. I have also been for a Red Light Therapy and Cyrotherapy session which is a couple of tube stops away from me and a little walk to a place called Be Super Human. I also have a lunch date with my girlfriend but before we sit down for that we are taking her dog up into the forest for a walk and a run around. I like to walk each day as much as I can and I aim for between 15k to 20k steps.

YOU RECENTLY PUBLISHED ‘JUST GETTING STARTED: THE NEW MENOPAUSE GUIDE FOR 2023’. CAN YOU SHARE WITH US WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE THIS PARTICULAR PATH IN SUPPORTING OTHERS WHO ARE IN THE SAME CHAPTER IN THEIR LIVES?

I wanted to write a book that would be a bedside bible for everyone of all genders to help them navigate this transitional time in a woman’s life. It’s a book about hope and embracing this new phase in our lives, reconnecting with ourselves, finding acceptance and liking who we are. I wish I’d had a book like this 10 years ago when I first started experiencing symptoms which I now know were peri-menopausal. In this book you will find invaluable help and advice from fantastic experts too, with regard to helping to move more, lose weight, eat well with recipes from me and help from Emma Bardwell who is a top nutritionist. There is guidance on HRT and also how to do it naturally as well to get our sleep and sex lives back on track. I throw a lot of my own personal experiences with life and love into the book. I hope it brings comfort, in the shape of a big warm hug to the reader and also reminds them that this isn’t the end of our lives, far from it, it’s just the beginning hence the title ‘Just Getting Started’.

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST TIPS FOR EASING BLOAT/PUFFINESS?

I drink lots of water throughout the day, I pee a lot!! I have really noticed how certain foods do not agree with me anymore, now I am post menopausal. My suggestion is to write a food diary each day and notice foods that cause aggravation and bloating. I stay way from bread and pasta most days, as well as too much milk. Coffee and sugar can also sometimes cause me to hold more water, so I make sure I move lots throughout the day to counteract this as well as pounding the water. A hot water with lemon first thing in the morning is a really nice ritual to have and it helps to gently wake up the system.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LEG CARE ROUTINE?

I love to dry body brush each morning before I shower. This helps to stimulate the circulation and is good for lymphatic drainage. Obviously Legology products feature big within my self care routine. The scrub is excellent and Air- Lite is a game changer to help legs when they feel tired and puffy. Top tip! Keep it in the fridge, it’s so refreshing.

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR ALL-TIME BEAUTY BESTS?

Balance Me Very Berry Cleansing Balm is a delightful product to use morning and night and thoroughly but gently removes any and all make up leaving the skin silky and glowing. Bio Effect products are great too, they have a lovely Essence and their EGF serum is fantastic. I love the Honey & Jasmine Mask from The Organic Pharmacy. When your skin feels dehydrated pop this on over cleansed skin and sleep in it.

WHAT SONG MAKES YOUR LEGS HIT THE DANCE FLOOR?

Anything By Prince or Chaka Khan.

WHO ARE YOUR LEG ICON/LEG ROLE MODELS?

Charlize Theron and Cameron Diaz.

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL MOST CONFIDENT ABOUT YOUR LEGS (BODY CARE, EXERCISE ETC)?

Incorporating lots of movement daily. Getting strong and toned at the gym. Walking, stretching, doing my daily body brush and invigorating scrubs. Eating well, keeping hydrated.
